Virginia Virginia was the home of the first permanent English
settlement in the New World - Jamestown, 1607. This state was among the original 13 Colonies, home to
such rabble rousers as Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry, and even George
Washington. Because of this great heritage, we're gonna let that
"Virginia is for Lovers!" crap slide. West Virginia West Virginia gets a bad rap. Sure, it's Appalachia. But it's also a wonderland of mountains, rivers, and
trees. It's even mentioned in a
John Denver song. Was your state
mentioned in a John Denver song?
Ok, then. Tennessee Speaking of songs,
I can name 6 that mention The Volunteer State: "Tenessee
Blues," "Tennessee" (Arrested Development), "Tennessee
Jed" (Grateful Dead), "The Tennessee Waltz," "Rocky
Top," and of course, "The Ballad of Davy Crockett." And that's just off the top of my
head. Are there more? Missouri Before Rod Tidwell and Jerry Maguire, there was
Congressman Willard Duncan Vandiver, who said, "I am from Missouri. You
have got to show me."
Between the Kansas City barbecue and the 30+ kinds of beer brewed in
St. Louis, one has to wonder what Lewis & Clark hoped to find out West.
