A Conversation with Hound Dog about "Tombstone Blues"
By Eric Wrisley

Three months ago, I loaned Hound Dog my copy of my first favorite Dylan album, Highway 61 Revisted. Hound Dog gave me his thoughts on "Tombstone Blues."

What's this song about? The dad - give the shoes to the mom. She's going to work in a factory. She's gotta go to work and she's got no damn shoes. She can go to work, that's fine. But give her the shoes.

The kid, he's in the kitchen and his dad's looking for groceries. Wouldn't it make more sense... the dad should be in the kitchen, because that's where the food is.

And then the kid can be in the alley, because it's got a better ambiance for the blues anyway. You know, down and out, in the alley, with the... what is he talking about? The tombstone blues. The kid should be out there.

And I don't care if the man's feet are too big and the shoes don't fit. She's working in a factory, she needs to wear shoes. If OSHA finds out about this woman in the factory with no shoes... well, that's a problem.

I'm not sure what the hell he's talking about, but I like it.
